Family Philanthropy: Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future

One of the special things about a family foundation is the role that philanthropy can play in building connections across the generations

Hearing Geoffrey White OAM, VFFF’s Trustee Emeritus and inaugural CEO, share his reflections from his close work with Sir Vincent and Lady Nancy with some of the youngest generation of the family was one of these special moments.

Geoffrey led VFFF’s work for 20 years, retiring in 2010. Over an intimate dinner in June at the family office, Geoffrey was interviewed by his grand-daughter Skye White, providing the opportunity for 12 members of the Rising Gen to learn from Geoffrey’s extensive philanthropic experience.

At the conclusion of the evening, each Rising Gen member was asked to share a highlight from the discussion. Responses ranged from drawing inspiration from Geoffrey's personal and professional journey to valuing the opportunity to hear first-hand about the Foundation’s early years, ongoing role and governance.

In November 1990, Sir Vincent himself recorded “ that the Foundation would someday become a mighty fund for distributions and influence.” The enthusiasm and curiosity that the youngest members of the family brought to the evening, fills everyone with confidence that VFFF will be around for many years to come.
