Backing the Future: Rizina Yadav
"‘The Backing the Future process was immensely valuable for me. The application, especially the questions and interview, involved thinking clearly and carefully about the change I wanted to create and my plan for effectively doing so. The VFFF team was kind and knowledgeable, ensuring the process was accessible throughout"– Rizina Yadav
Rizina received a 2023 Queensland Backing the Future grant for her proposal, Young Women’s Policy Submission (YWPS). This proposal was approved under our Contributing to Society focus area.
VFFF’s Youth Advisory Group and Grants Committee were excited by Rizina’s unique approach to effecting change and commitment to elevating the voices of rural and regional young women.
Rizina will use her Backing the Future grant to travel across rural and regional Queensland to conduct primary research on young women’s life experiences across eight areas: education, career, health, society, romantic relationships, financial literacy, family/friends, and policy change. The grant will also support Rizina’s wages for the grant term.
Her research findings will form the basis of a policy submission presented to each state and territory Minister for Women, as well as the federal Minister for Women and Parliament of Australia.
In her application, Rizina identified four objectives of YWPS:
- Normalise young women’s voices in political decision-making
- Deliver tangible improvements in young women’s life outcomes
- Ensure proactive government action on gender issues
- Foster young women’s personal and political empowerment.
Rizina’s work will kick off in August 2023.
